Effect of tracer buoyancy on tracer experiments conducted in fractured crystalline bedrock

چکیده

[1] Tracer buoyancy has been shown to influence breakthrough from two-well tracer experiments conducted in porous media. Two-well tracer experiments are presented from fractured crystalline bedrock, in which the specific gravity of the tracer injectate varied from 1.0002 to 1.0133. Under the forced hydraulic conditions imposed, no difference in breakthrough was noted for the three experiments. These results show that even relatively dense tracer injectate solutions may have an insignificant effect on breakthrough when imposed gradients are sufficiently large.

Distinguishing Advection, Dispersion, and Diffusion in Fractured Bedrock

Mass spreading of non-reactive tracers in fractured bedrock can be described by a combination of molecular diffusion, hydrodynamic dispersion, and heterogeneous advection. These spreading mechanisms are fundamentally different in their behavior and, therefore, must be measured separately for reliable predictions of transport to be made. To separate the influence of these mechanisms, to the exte...

Fractured Bedrock Aquifer Hydrogeologic Characterization for a Bioaugmentation Pilot Study

A hydrogeologic characterization was performed to evaluate the nature of groundwater flow in an alluvial and underlying fractured bedrock aquifer in the area between an unlined, inactive landfill and a river in southern California. The hydrogeologic characterization was used to enhance the site conceptual model for the site, and to design a bioaugmentation pilot test to evaluate the use of enha...

The Effect of Different Stabilizers on Stability of Horseradish Peroxidase- Bovine Serum Albumin-Aflatoxin B1, a Conjugated Tracer for Detection of Aflatoxin B1 in Immunoassay-Based Methods

Aflatoxins are a group of fungal toxic metabolites, which are contaminated certain food commodities. ELISA is one of the sensitive methods for detection of aflatoxins. Preparation and stabilizing of a proper conjugated tracer for detection of aflatoxins is probably the main step for designing an ELISA method. In current study, different stabilizers were applied to stabilize a newly prepared con...

Use of a Multi-offset Borehole-radar Reflection Method in Fractured Crystalline Bedrock at Mirror Lake, Grafton County, New Hampshire

Multi-offset, single-hole, borehole-radar reflection surveys were conducted at the U.S. Geological Survey Fractured Rock Research Site at Mirror Lake, in Grafton County, New Hampshire. The study was conducted to evaluate the benefits of applying multi-offset seismic processing techniques to borehole-radar reflection surveys in fractured rock. The multi-offset reflection surveys were conducted i...

Observations from Borehole Dilution Logging Experiments in Fractured Crystalline Rock under Ambient and Pump Test Conditions

Identifying hydraulically active fractures in low permeability, crystalline-bedrock aquifers requires a variety of geophysical and hydrogeophysical borehole tools and approaches. One such approach is Single Borehole Dilution Tests (SBDT), which in some low flow cases have been shown to provide greater resolution of borehole flow than other logging procedures, such as vertical differential Heat ...
